First & foremost we have to wish a very happy birthday to Brijesh Pandya, the man behind today’s featured track. When last we checked in with Pandya in an Alt Rising Acts interview, he was making music under the Wild Awake moniker. Now he’s back with a new project by the name of Haathi, with a stellar departure in musical direction. You probably know Pandya as the drummer for hit LA acts such as Air Life and Steady Holiday, or maybe even saw him at Funk & Waffles a few weeks ago. We always knew Brijesh was very talented, but damn does he conquer with his new single Say Goodnight.

Say Goodnight is an enthralling textured treat: 70s funk & modern psychpop tendencies support Haathi’s dance-infused indie rock sound. Reminiscent of St. Lucia, the track is addictive, fresh and cleansing with vocals that have a ruminating openness. You’ll be grooving and nodding in no time. Free Bike Valet makes a fantastic point by saying the song “[channels] a worldbeat vibe that would make Gotye jealous.” Something tells us this Haathi single is somewhat influenced by Talking Heads’ Remain In Light, as Pandya previously told us that record was in his heavy rotation back in 2015. All in all, this song carries a wandering strut with its motivating pick-yourself-up type of vibe, which certainly impresses and doesn’t offend.

Celebrate Brijesh’s birthday and catch Haathi at a free 21+ single release show tonight (Sat, Oct. 16th) at the Resident in DTLA, 6-8:30PM.
