The title of the song says it all, being that we’re already a week into December. As some have already been deep in the holiday-cheer for quite a few weeks now (if not months), I’m just getting in the spirit since it’s barely starting to cool down a bit here in Southern California. The amazing thing about our dear friend Depressica’s and Patio’s version of “Christmastime Is Here” is that it’s warm and cozy in the comforting vocals, while introspective and reminiscing in the simple guitar atmospherics, updating the Vince Guaraldi standard to modern indie-rock sentimentality–the perfect Christmas song to wind down a long week by relaxing under a blanket with a drink in hand. As we’re reminded of “olden times and ancient rhymes, of love and dreams to share,” this version fits well among all of Depressica’s classic songs of grounding caught-in-the-moment reflection filled with that hope that everything will work itself out soon. “Oh, that we could always see, such spirit through the year.” Luckily, Depressica’s music is always around to give us that spirit in the air and joyful memories there.
